The World T20 is a special affair for quite a few sides, but for two teams in particular, this World T20 is a matter of vengeance. India won the first ever World T20 in the year 2007 but since then have been woeful in other such tournaments. The 'Men in Blue' failed to win a single game in the Super Eights stage. Australia on the other hand have never managed to go the entire distance and this happens the be the only world trophy that has never found its way to the Australian trophy cabinet.
With one side eager regain lost glory and another in pursuit of their first moment of fame, this contest promises to have all the ingredients required to concoct a high quality game of cricket.
Team News:
India: In their last group stage game, India went in with a team that saw quite a few changes. Harbhajan Singh and Piyush Chawla were brought in to the side and R.Ashwin and Zaheer Khan were rested. That change led to England being bowled out for a paltry score of just 80, with Harbhajan and Chawla managing to take six wickets collectively. With 'the Turbanator' and Chawla coming good, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will have to think twice before opting to exclude either spinner when they take on Australia, a side that also has shown some difficulties against spin in the past.
Dhoni has hinted that he might go in with five bowlers and that particular strategy opens the door for an interesting tactic of fielding two pace bowlers and three spinners. In that scenario, India could go in with Ashwin, Harbhajan and Chawla, all of whom have shown semblance of good form. Apart from bringing in three in form bowlers, what it also does is reduce the damage caused by the pace bowlers. Irfan Pathan has been good with the new ball and he should make it to the playing XI owing to his capabilities with the bat. The fight for that one spot could be between Zaheer Khan and Lakshmipathy Balaji, that is if Zaheer remains fit to play.
As far as the batting goes, Dhoni will have to consider either giving Virender Sehwag an extended rest or he will have to axe one of the other batsmen in the line up, possibly Yuvraj Singh or Suresh Raina. The rest of the side should remain same as the one that played against England.
Australia: George Bailey has made it clear that his side are ready for the spin challenge and has acknowledged that this Indian bowling line up needs to be treated with respect. He has also stated that his side aren't totally dependent on Shane Watson and that they can do well as a team. 'Do well' is exactly what they have done so far in this tournament. First the Australians demolished Ireland and after hammering West Indies all over the park for nine overs, they were helped by some rain as the Duckworth and Lewis method ruled in their favour.
With Watson and David Warner firing at the top for Australia, the middle order hasn't had too much time in the middle yet. Although the top order's success is a good sign for the Australians, it also means that the middle order might be put under immense pressure if that top order falters.
The bowling looked a little weak on Sri Lankan soil when it went up against the West Indies. Pat Cummins in particular was quite expensive as he went for 41 runs in his four overs and Glen Maxwell's spin was used just for the one over, owing to the fact that he conceded 17 runs. Perhaps Australia might be better suited to playing more than just one genuine spinner in these conditions and that could mean that either Cummins or Maxwell will have to make way for left arm orthodox, Xavier Doherty. Apart from that, there shouldn't be too many changes.
Quotes:
Dhoni on the five bowlers strategy: 'We would most likely go in with five bowlers but I still don't know what will be the combination. It will be a fresh wicket and we have to take into consideration how it will be before the start of the match'
Bailey on the Indian bowlers: 'We don't want to focus too heavily on one bowler. It's not that we focus too much on Harbhajan and don't focus on Ashwin. All the Indian bowlers are pretty good and we respect that fact.'

Arrest of Google Brazil head stirs debate over Web

google-wall.jpg

The arrest of a top Google executive is reviving a debate about Brazilian laws that hold services such as YouTube responsible for the videos posted on them, making the country a hotbed of attempts to stifle digital content.
Legal experts said Thursday that Google violated a judge's order to take down videos on its YouTube subsidiary that target Brazilian political candidates and that the judge was completely within the law in issuing the arrest warrant.
But they said the arrest of Fabio Jose Silva Coelho, the head of Google Inc.'s Brazil operations, underscores the need to modernize laws that treat offensive material on the Internet like material that is carried by newspapers, television and radio, holding platforms such as Google responsible for user-provided content.
Coelho was released shortly after his arrest Wednesday and agreed to appear before a court at an as-yet undetermined time. On Google's official Brazil blog, Coelho wrote Thursday night that the company was forced to block the video in the case for which he was arrested after the company lost its final appeal.
"We are deeply disappointed that we have never had the full opportunity to argue in court that these were legitimate free speech videos and should remain available in Brazil," he wrote. "Despite all this, we will continue to campaign for free expression globally."
Legal experts said the case cast a spotlight on problems within Brazil's legal system.
"Our laws trying to govern the Internet are outdated," said Jose Guilherme Zagallo, head of the Brazilian bar association's commission focusing on information technology law. "It's not clear who is responsible for content, and that creates uncertainty for Internet companies, users and judges, who are left to interpret laws not written for the Internet."
Brazil's strict electoral laws limit what critics can say on television, radio and the Internet about candidates for office. On several occasions in recent years, media outlets have faced stiff fines for breaking the laws, but few if any officials were arrested.
Google's alleged infractions, however, are more widespread, simply because of its omnipresence. Ahead of municipal elections in Brazil next month, Google has received requests in more than 20 states to remove videos that allegedly violate those restrictions.
Google has faced a landslide of content-removal requests around the globe, including in the U.S., but Brazil makes more requests than any other nation, according to the company's summary of all the demands. Most such demands relate to legitimate attempts to enforce laws on issues ranging from personal privacy to hate speech.
Brazilian government agencies alone submitted a total of 194 content-removal requests during the final half of last year, according to a summary released by Google in June. Running just behind that was the United States, where police, prosecutors, courts and other government agencies submitted 187 requests to remove content over the same period.
Google says it complied fully or partially with 54 percent of Brazilian removal requests in the last half of 2011. Most requests involved YouTube and charges of defamation. Other requests involved the social networking site Orkut and requests to remove illegal content, such as child pornography.
Separately this week, another Brazilian court ordered YouTube to remove clips of an anti-Islam film that has been blamed for deadly protests by Muslims around the globe. Google is now selectively blocking the video clips in countries that include Libya and Egypt. Google has said it made the decision to block the video in such places due to "the sensitive situations" there.
Brazil's legal action targeting a Google executive, while rare, is not unprecedented. In 2010 in Italy, a judge held three Google executives criminally responsible for an online video of an autistic teenager being bullied. The executives were given six-month suspended sentences.
A judge in Mato Grosso do Sul state ordered Coelho arrested because the company had not removed YouTube videos making incendiary comments about an alleged paternity suit aimed at Alcides Bernal, who is running for mayor of the city of Campo Grande.
"Being a platform, Google is not responsible for the content posted on its site," the company said in a statement this week.
Bruno Magrani, a researcher at the Center for Technology and Society at Rio de Janeiro's Getulio Vargas Foundation, said that unlike the United States and some other countries, Brazil doesn't have legal protections for online service providers that host content provided by third parties.
There is pending legislation that would provide some protection for intermediaries such as Google. Earlier this month the company joined Facebook and online retail site MercadoLivre in sending an open letter supporting the passage of the law, called Marco Civil.
"Marco Civil establishes that providers of Internet applications are not responsible for content published by users," the letter says. "Various economic, social and legislative factors justify not holding providers responsible; without that protection, the use of online applications and platforms would be limited, which would be a loss to users."
While the measure would create some protections, it would not resolve the legal tangle facing Google's Coelho or prevent the situation from recurring, Magrani said.
The Marco Civil is general legislation, and could still be trumped by more specific electoral laws. Those laws treat an Internet platform such as Google as if it were a newspaper or a television station, holding it responsible for its content.
"It's a very serious situation," Magrani said. "Brazil needs to change its electoral law to accommodate the nature and the characteristics of the Internet. The Internet cannot be treated in the same way as traditional media."
First, he said, an Internet company cannot evaluate all the content it carries in the same way a newspaper or television channel can because of the sheer volume.
Second, "the Internet has no editor. And we don't want an editor," Magrani said.
He said asking a company to determine what users can upload is a dangerous step that could undermine freedom of information.
"If we continue threatening to jail heads of companies who don't verify content before it goes on the Internet, we will end up living in a state of censorship," he said. "If the company is running a high risk, it'll start posting less and less material. If companies start to feel afraid of retaliation, they'll start censoring."
The lack of protections for Internet platforms can also have a chilling effect on the development of small- and medium-size high-tech companies in Brazil that don't have the resources of big companies like Google, Magrani said.
The federal government is investing heavily to promote the tech sector, but Brazilian legislators need to diminish legal risks for startups, he said.
Maria Clara Garcaz, a 20-year-old university student in Rio de Janeiro, expressed worries about the court action.
"It's like we live in a silent, disguised dictatorship. When we had our real dictatorship, at least you knew for certain what you could and couldn't say," Garcaz said. "Political speech can be censored at any time and it's moving into the Internet, exactly where people speak out."

'Rebel' Movie Review: It is tasteless and worse than expectation

A decayed story and a tasteless narration, are only two of the several mind-numbing flaws of Rebel. Arrogant, self-important creators make films like 'Businessman' and 'DCM'. Confused creators make films like 'Nippu'. Lawrence is neither arrogant nor confused, but he suffers from that very common hangover disease. An 'LIB' modelled on the template of Happy Days is understandable, but infusing pointless choreography into the narrative, together with villains in trendy attires, totally inconsequential gangster look of the hero (Don) not only seem inappropriate but also peeve us to the extreme.
To add to the woes of Prabhas' fans, he is seen putting on unnecessary tearjerkers throughout the movie, whether he is sharing his plight or dancing with the orphans or introducing his lover to his dad. He gets exaggeratedly emotional every now and then when he is expected to deliver punch lines and knock out the villains.
Till about 10 minutes before the interval, Prabhas is no more than a character artiste, while our beloved comedy hero Brahmi and Kovai Sarala have all the duets. To make the matters worse, Lawrence outrageously makes the superstar act like Aparichitudu's Ramu in the flashback! Take out the four fights and the songs, even Sunil could have pulled off the script. Why does Bhupathi Raju (Krishnam Raju) want his son to grow like a timid guy with a passion for music? His desire is not integral to the story. But it is integral to Lawrence's creativity. He wants to choreograph a stupid scene with Prabhas and Ali using this element as a ruse.
'Rebel' Movie Review: It is tasteless and worse than expectation
Is there any justification for a solo song for Tamannah when the 'Rebel' himself doesn't have one? There are more dialogues for Brahmi, Tamannah and Krishnam Raju combined than for Prabhas! What a bad way of making a mass entertainer with one of the most valued heroes of Tollywood!
To begin with, Rishi has to find the whereabouts of Stephen-Robert, not sure whether he is one, like Raghava Lawrencce, or two. He stays in a flat in Hyderabad, where he lives with the blabbermouth Brahmi (Narasa Raju, also called Nasa Raju). Learning that dreaded don Nana's daughter (Tamannah as Nandini) is a dance teacher in Bangkok, he flies there along with Brahmi and starts wooing her miserably. His secret motive is to extract the identity of Stephen-Robert, whose whereabouts are known by Nana.
Once Nandini asks probing questions, Supreeth (as Prabhas' lieutenant, is over-the-top like many others) starts narrating the flashback. There comes Krishnam Raju, who punishes the SI (Bharath) for wanting to sleep with a woman. In 'far-away' Bangalore, Prabhas is in love with Deeksha Seth (as Deepali, she sleepwalks her minor role), an orphan with three spiritual mothers.
So, when and how did the trouble begin? When his dad was in danger, Prabhas had to fight with many Kanchanas and even beat MLA Simhadri (Pradeep Rawat, who kills himself for no logical reason) for wanting to murder his father. This enraged Simhadri, who then joined hands with two other villains in order to eliminate Rebel Sr.
The rest of the film is about how the now-deeply disturbed Rebel Jr. uses his below average brain to get some info about Stephen-Robert in order to avenge the death of his parents and Deepali.
Faltering in execution, Lawrence pens some landish scenes with reckless abandon. Tamannah's behaviour after listening to the flashback, where she breaks into 'Ori Nayano' number, is one such scene. Prabhas' heroism is not cleverly elevated, and it was totally unnecessary that he was made to have a rivalry with David in the first half because David's character was not needed. Lawrence makes his hero either an observer or a bystander or a witless character in many other scenes.
The behaviour of the villains in the climax fight is illogical, to say the least. Would a bloodthirsty man be stupid enough to go by the rules set by the hero when death stares him in the face in spite of having a gun in his hand? Did Lawrence think it was a dance competition (like the one seen in Style)?
Swamy disappoints with his unintelligent dialogues. Most lines are hackneyed and some even funny. Chinna's BG score is ok. The editing could have been definitely better, while the cinematography was alright. Ram-Lakshman's fights are not inventive.
Speaking of performances, Prabhas does justice to his character even in the ill-etched scenes. Overall, he portrays the emotions quite well. His modulation is apt.
Krishnam Raju should have been minimal. His get up is appalling, the costumes are unfortunately Western. He looks bit tired. Tamannah adds the required glamour quotient, but hers is not a meaty role. Deeksha may be ignored. Mukesh Rishi, Supreet and Pradeep Rawat fail to add anything. Brahmi, Ali and MS are boring.
If there are any like able elements, it is those dance moves by Prabhas and Tamannah. The minimum expected when a top class dance director is the helmsman

World T20 Preview: India take on Pakistan in a do-or-die match

Colombo: Humiliated by Australia in their opening Super Eights match, a jittery India will have to pick up the pieces from their all-round failure and come up with an inspired performance against arch-rivals Pakistan in their do-or-die game in the World Twenty20 here on Sunday.

The Indian team looked completely out of sorts against Australia and they now have to quickly address their woes in all departments of the game when they take on an upbeat Pakistan, who had beaten South Africa in a thriller, if they want to remain afloat in the tournament.

India's five bowler strategy was a big hit against England in the group match but in conducive conditions against Australia, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's frontline spinners were hammered by Shane Watson-David Warner duo in last night's match.

Dhoni blamed the short spell of drizzle before the start of the Australian innings as a reason for his bowlers' failure. But the fact that the entire bowling unit failed to put up a semblance of a fight came as a surprise.

From Ravichandran Ashwin to Piyush Chawla, everyone bowled half-trackers and full-tosses which proved to be cannon fodder for the two dashing 'Ws' of Australian cricket.

Although Dhoni may persist with his five bowler strategy, it will be very surprising if leggie Chawla gets another chance in the tournament.

Pakistan are far superior players of spin bowling and consistency has never been Chawla's forte as he is primarily a rhythm bowler. On their day, the likes of Imran Nazir, Nasir Jamshed and Mohammad Hafeez can take Chawla to the cleaners --- something Dhoni can't afford at this juncture of the tournament.

Dhoni had suggested that "slower deliveries will be effective on Premadasa strip" which means that a bowler like Lakshmipathy Balaji will be more effective. The Indian team also has their share of batting worries and it will be interesting to know whether Dhoni will persist with Irfan Pathan as the makeshift opener and keep Virender Sehwag out of the equation.

Sample this. The Indian batsmen in the three matches so far in the tournament have been able hit only seven sixes (four vs Afghans, one vs England and two vs Australia) while Watson alone has hit seven sixes against India yesterday.

Dhoni incidentally said at the post match press conference that "it was very difficult to justify why Sehwag was dropped".

However, there are serious questions that need to be asked about Yuvraj Singh's inclusion in the team.

Largely an emotional decision by the selectors after his remarkable recovery from rare germ cell cancer, each and every passing match has been a proof of the fact that the talented left-hander needed some serious match practice at the domestic level before making an international comeback.

He has totally looked out of sorts while batting although he has somewhat made up with his bowling. Yuvraj has been quiet with the bat and that has affected India's chances of putting up a big score against Afghanistan and Australia.

The choice between Sehwag and Yuvraj is a difficult one at the moment as both are not contributing with the bat. But there is still an outside chance of Sehwag playing an impact innings at the top of the order but getting a 40-ball-70 from Yuvraj will be asking for too much at this stage.

Pakistan, on the other hand, would look to put up an improved batting performance as it was due to sheer brilliance of Umar Gul that they were able to beat South Africa after being 76 for seven at one stage.

Talent has never been an issue with Pakistan cricket as they have had that in abundance but consistency has been a problem.

While they employed four spinners against South Africa, they might not use rookie slow left-arm orthodox bowler Raza Hasan against India.

While skipper Mohammad Hafeez, Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal are automatic choices, there is a chance that Pakistan may play Mohammad Sami who, with his raw pace, can be a bit of an enforcer.

The only problem for Pakistan has been Afridi's sharp dip in form with the willow which at times does hamper Pakistan's batting prospects.

Afridi's propensity of playing high-risk-no-gain kind of strokes have always put his team in trouble and it was not an exception against South Africa.

A lot will also depend on Pakistan's most talented young batsman Umar Akmal who on his day can take apart any bowling attack in the world.

Skipper Hafeez's consistency, Ajmal's tricks and Shoaib Malik's calming presence are certain positive aspects for the team.

The Squads:

India: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt; wk), Gautam Gambhir, Ravichandran Ashwin, Lakshmipathy Balaji, Piyush Chawla, Ashok Dinda, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Virat Kohli, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma, Manoj Tiwary, Yuvraj Singh.

Pakistan: Mohammad Hafeez (capt.), Imran Nazir, Kamran Akmal (wk), Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Nasir Jamshed, Saeed Ajmal, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Akmal, Umar Gul, Yasir Arafat, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Sami, Asad Shafiq, Raza Hasan

Blog Smartly and Let the Cash Pour In

To be really popular as a blogger, you must encourage visitors from commenting on your posts. After writing a long opinion about something on your blog, the best way to conclude is by saying – “What do you think”? When your blog receives frequent comments, new site visitors will also get the impression that your blog is popular and they too may consider subscribing to your blog.
Always respond to user comments. Most visitors who leave comments tend to return after some time to read other comments on the topic. If their comment remains unanswered, it could discourage them from posting new comments in the future.
Don’t get discouraged by negative feedback. You will always find some people who have bad things to say about what you have written. If the comment is too aggressive or uses foul language, it is best to remove it from the blog. After all, your blog is not a public restroom.

More visitors mean more ad impressions, which in turn means more revenue. From the perspective of search engines, a blog is no different from a website. All the basic search engine optimization rules equally apply to any blog, for a good search engine ranking. Search engines love blogs more than regular websites, since blogs are content-rich and turn up new content more frequently than websites.
Discussing Search Engine Optimizer, SEO, techniques may be beyond the scope of this article but still, I would mention some of the most important things, that bloggers should bear in mind while designing their blog and posting content:
Write good titles: Blog titles is one of the best ways to attract readers to your blog. Write meaningful titles that convey the essence of your blog posts. A title like “Look at this cool wireless device” is likely to fetch very few visitors when compared with “Nikon P1 Wireless Digital Camera Review”.
· Time is always a problem for most web surfers – a usability study has shown that people merely scan a site and don’t read the content word by word. Therefore, highlight the important words (make them bold), italicize the lines to get people to at least read the most important portions of your story.
· Don’t substitute text with graphics. Agreed, that a picture is worth a thousand words in real life but the same may not hold true for search engines. You can always complement your posts with a nice looking, small graphic but in doing so, don’t replace the text content. Google or Yahoo cannot read the text inside your pictures – they understand only textual content.
· Before using multimedia content like audio-video clips, flash files – think of the user who visits your website using a slow dialup connection – the site may take ages to load on the user’s screen and you tend lose the all-important visitor. It’s highly unlikely that he’ll ever visit your site again. Use small graphics instead.
· Don’t write lengthy content, as visitors are very likely to lose interest. Instead, break the content in different parts and link them together.
More than 60% of the web population cannot understand English. But thanks to online translation services like Google Translate, Babel Fish or World Lingo, you can let non-English speaking visitors translate your blog into their native language.
· Use web analytics software like Google Analytics (formerly, Urchin), Statcounter or Sitemeter to track what visitors are doing on your website. These free services can help you discover what sections on your website are more popular, how did people reach your site, how long they stayed, their browser, screen resolution and tonnes of other important details. Using this information, you can estimate what people are actually looking for on your website. Understand what content is popular and why is it popular. You can apply these lessons learned to the less-popular content.
· Not everyone in this world understands RSS – many internet users won’t now how to use a RSS reader like Newsgator or Bloglines, but they definitely know e-mail. There are tons of RSS-to-email services like FeedBlitz or Bloglet that let people subscribe to your blog by e-mail. You must use them to widen your subscriber base.
There are plenty of other things that can help increase the visibility of your website. If you like to contribute your own tips, please leave them in the comments section.
The next big thing – we have talked about visitors but what ads which will actually generate money. Let’s look at some effective techniques for monetizing your blog:
· Use ads above the main page fold – that’s the most important thing in my opinion. Users should notice the ad as soon as they land on your site without scrolling further.
· Wide Rectangle Formats (300×250) generally perform better than leader boards and small rectangles because the eyes are used to reading content from left to right.
· Your ad placement should blend with the content. Use colour schemes that match with whole page theme – if you use highly contrasting colours assuming that it will attract attention, it won’t work, as the ad clearly tells the user – “Hey, I am an Ad”
For short posts, ads work best when they are placed above the content, while for lengthy ones, try an ad placement at the bottom of the post. When readers finish reading the content, they generally look for related resources to learn more.
· Organize a party of your friends and relatives – Show them your website and look at their navigation pattern – this could give important pointers about which areas on your website attract more attention and which areas are likely to be ignored by the users.
· Don’t make heavy use of stop words like death, murder, kill, etc if you are using the Adsense programme. Google would stop displaying ads on pages that use these stop words. There are exceptions as well, like in one case, a user wrote on Dead Pixels on LCD screens – the post had the word ‘dead’ in multiple places and Google did accept the page.
· Remember not to clutter your website with too many ad units. This could leave a bad impression on your user and he may go away forever. Use your own judgment – if you see a similar layout on a third website, what kind of impression would you form of that website.
