Its office flooded, GTU’s files soaked with rain water
Hundreds of official files of the Gujarat Technological University (GTU) got soaked with rain water when one of its basement offices in the building of the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) within the premises of the LD College of Engineering was flooded during rains last week.
Set up in 2009, GTU has been operating from the ground floor and second floor of ACPC building.
However, during four months of monsoon season, which is the time for admission to engineering and other professional courses, GTU’s ground floor office is shifted to the basement of the building and the ground floor is handed over to ACPC for facilitating admission work.
However, when the heavy rains arrived all of a sudden last week, it flooded the basement premises accommodating the GTU offices, along with computers and documents. Though the computers were saved as they were kept at a higher level on tables, documents and official files kept in the lower part of the almirahs were soaked with water. The GTU officials were taken unawares because the heavy rains occurred during night.
Vice-Chancellor Akshay Aggarwal said his staff were now busy drying up the soaked files to ensure that no record disappeared.
GTU is awaiting the completion of its own building which is under construction over 21 acres of land in Chandkheda near Gandhinagar. The under-construction buildings include three multi-storied complexes with 100 chambers for accommodating the officials and staff of GTU, as also four small conference rooms and an auditorium hall.
